The 2024 FRC game, Crescendo was 'music' to our ears! Robots were required to pick up 14" orange rubber rings ("Notes") and could score them into high ("Speaker") or low ("Amp") goals for varying points. The game moved very fast with robots moving across the full field in order to pick up notes from its "Source", which was on the opponent's side of the field.
Our 2024 robot, "Festus" was named after the mechanical dragon character from the Percy Jackson book series because we felt that his intake/shooter mechanism resembled a dragon's head. Festus utilized an under-the-bumper intake for notes which was reinforced with an 11 pound steel bar - providing great protection from the inevitable impacts of this fast-moving game. Festus contained a number of sensors to let the team know when a note was picked up, and he could score both into the amp and speaker. Festus also featured a two-arm climber to pull up onto the chain and climb during Endgame.
Our first official event of the season saw our team selected as the first pick of the 7th Alliance. We were eliminated in the semi-finals but were able to do some great testing of our robot and brand new drive team.
The Wake County event was an incredible experience for our team. Our team performed extremely well with a very tough qualifying match schedule and was chosen as the first pick of the 3rd Alliance going into playoffs. We were event finalists making it all the way to match 3 of the finals. We were also awarded the Innovation in Control Award for the variety of sensors and trap automation routine on our robot.
